Dynamic 3yo filly SAGAPONACK trained by our Newcastle based mentor JASON DEAMER, was sent to the "aways" on Saturday to do an important job and break her maiden and she did that with ease, claiming a valuable victory to add her magnificent pedigree page.

Our Magic Millions purchased filly is by SNITZEL from THE HAMPTONS (Encosta de Lago)

SAGAPONACK as a yearling
THE HAMPTONS is a half-sister to 5-time Stakes Winner PEARL GREEN.
The Hamptons is a full sister to SW FIFTH AVANUE LADY, half-sister to SW MRS ONASSIS, AUSSIES LOVE SPORT, MISS JUDGEMENT (Dam of MISSROCK, PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE, sp GENERAL’S DELIGHT) and the Dam of SW RENAISSANCE WOMAN.

SAGAPONACK proved to classy against this grade of older horses, to score over 1006m in Race 1 the Coastal Commercial Linings Maiden Plate at Port Macquarie.
Ridden by Ben Looker, it was a case of “go to the front and improve on your position,” as our 3yo filly gave nothing else a chance to win eased down at the luxurious odds of $3.50 over the favourite Angels Cloud $2.15 with the third placed galloper Ultimate Reign $20, 3.29 lengths away.
With her fantastic pedigree supporting her lovely looks, she has always shown her trainer she has the ability to put photos on the wall, so it was important to get the first one out of the way, and now we continue to build-up her racing resume for a career as a broodmare when that day presents itself, when time is called on her racing career.
SAGAPONACK was second-up here at Port Macquarie, having just one trial over 850m before her first-up effort when very uncomfortable finishing fourth on a Heavy track over 1012m at Taree.
We felt she was going well enough to win that event, however without our standard second trial for fitness, and then being presented with a mud heap to kick off, she got back in the field, then tired through the run and whacked away over the final furlong.
She had only one start in her first preparation, finishing third at Canberra over 1000m.
She was still immature and that race was about education and racecraft, when she led but was caught late to finish 1.13 lengths from the winner.
Spelled after that to have the benefit of the late spring and summer sun on her back, she was sent up to our trainer JASON DEAMER at Newcastle to start the second preparation, with the mission statement to get a win on the career resume, and then having laid our foundation, build her career record. Jason has achieved part one.
Anticipating there was to be a bit of early speed, we still wanted to be positive but just take our time to roll to the front.
The field of 8 runners bounced away as one, and from barrier 5, we were still trapped 5 deep after the first 200m, before Ben Looker summed things up quickly, and in a lightning move, kicked up, and our filly crossed to the fence, putting a gap of 3 lengths into the field before Ben took hold.
Running down the side from the 600m to the 400m, and in a controlled rhythm, Ben then pushed the go button as SAGAPONACK straightened and our Dynamic Duo pushed out to a three lengths break on the pack with the favourite Angels Cloud as the only horse giving chase.
These two had burst clear of the field and nothing back in the ruck had any answers.

Passing the 100m the runner-up Angels Cloud was all out and laying in under pressure, so with a glance over his shoulder Ben Looker knew the race was won and allowed SAGAPONACK to coast to the post for an effortless victory.
