DOLLARS cashes in at Gosford !

DOLLARS wins eased down by 4.43 lengths
DOLLARS won Race 4, the SHARP DS Central Coast Midway
Benchmark 68 Handicap (1600m), at Gosford on July 18, 2026. Trained by Jason
Deamer and ridden by Lee Magorrian, the 4-year-old gelding started at $14
and defeated Kahraba by 4.43 lengths with a further 0.69 length back to Kirkuk
in third position.
DOLLARS is a 4-year-old gelding by champion sire
Written Tycoon out of the Real Saga mare, Stresa. The Dam Stresa is a half-sister
to Capitalist (Written Tycoon). As DOLLARS is by Written Tycoon, that
makes him a three-quarter brother to Capitalist and he is a full brother to
stakes winner Tyresa.
Akin to a duck, DOLLARS is a real swimmer, now having
had 3 runs on Heavy Tracks for 2 wins (1600m) and a second (1400m) whilst on
Soft ground he has a win, second and third from 7 starts. However, he is not as
comfortable on firm ground with 6 runs for just one third. He has been targeted
to winter racing and he needs a mile or further to show his credentials. So up
at this time of year was always the plan and with all the stars aligning here,
a Heavy 9, 1600m, genuine tempo on the race map, and blinkers back on,
connections were bullish DOLLARS would deliver and he duly scored at a very
lucrative $14, although astute shoppers were able to get as much as $21 early
with some corporates.

DOLLARS lookes awesome in the parade
We arrived here fit and well and at the right trip of 1600m.
DOLLARS doesn’t have a natural turn of foot, so doesn’t really quicken
or go through his gears. Hence why he is not suited at short course dashes. However,
what he does possess is a high cruising speed that can be maintained. An ideal
recipe for 1600m to 2000m gallopers, especially when there is give in a track.
He has now raced 6 starts at 1600m for 3 wins; Gosford (H9),
Newcastle (H9), Taree (S5), a second at Newcastle (S6) and third at Warwick
Farm (S7) whilst he was unplaced once at Randwick over 1600m on a Good 4
surface.
Tactically we devised the right plan. To drive him from the
barriers early to take up a forward position into the first turn, hopefully
lead or sit at the girth of the leader. We believed his superior fitness to
most of his peers, plus his acceptance of Heavy ground and his ability to
maintain his high cruising speed would come to the fore.
He had been nominated and accepted for several events, just
waiting to pick the eyes out of the programme and after acceptances and barrier
draws, we chose the race that looked best on paper with also having one eye on
the weather.
He was accepted for a race on Friday at Tamworth which we
believed suited him well and also this event at Gosford. Knowing the rain that
was falling at Gosford Thursday and forecast for heavy rain Friday, we elected
to scratch from Tamworth and run at Gosford and the result franked our belief.
We waited until race morning to declare our rider Lee Magorrian.
Originally, he was engaged on another runner but that horse was scratched and
when Lee became available that was ideal for our horse who needs a strong
rider.
Firming in the market from $18 to $14, we had him rated a $5
chance and it would prove to be an effortless, pain free and profitable watch
for owners and connections.
We anticipated the speed would come from the apprentice who
drew wide, they would overdo it trying to get to the front. As the gates
crashed back, the tempo was strong for the first 200m as all connections seemed
that they wanted to lead.
As expected, the apprentice drove her mount Darn Cute to the
front in a handlebars down, Kamikaze approach. Darn Cute would burst and was
demoralised finishing 16.5 lengths last. Connections of Tillstrom had obviously a
similar idea, pushing that horse way too hard early and it would eventually
finish 5.9 lengths away in fourth.
However, as the field approached the first turn, Tillstrom
controlled the race on the paint setting a quick tempo. Darn Cute positioned up
at its girth. Lee Magorrian had pushed up as requested and got a perfect trail
landing fourth, one out one back, with the 11/8 race favourite Squeezebox third
the fence, whilst the field was starting to spread out over 10 lengths first to
last.
Running down the back straight, the race didn’t change
complexion, as the horses and riders had their positions and in the testing
surface were keeping their mounts comfortable.
Approaching the 600m the race was on. The leaders both
started to yield ground and Squeezebox on the fence was going no better. Lee angled
DOLLARS 3 wide and asked to extend and our galloper picked up the bit
and travelled easily to move up and eyeball the leaders, who were both gone as
the field swung into the home straight.

From here it was only a matter of how far the margin was
going to be.

Hands and Heels he was low flying
Knowing that our horse was going to keep grinding away at
his current speed, but had fitness and strength on his side, Lee kept asking DOLLARS
to find and our boy kept responding.
.jpg)
It was proving a demolition job and
with each stride up the short Gosford home straight, the margin kept extending.
It was more like a barrier trial or trackwork than a competition,
as Lee and DOLLARS cruised past the camera.

Job Done!
DOLLARS ran 1.41.54 on the testing Heavy 9 track with
a Final 600m in 38.28 secs. To give his effort perspective, the other 1600m
event on the programme ran a time of 1:42.69 which was 1.15 seconds slower.
This time differential is the equivalent to approximately 8 lengths.
Whilst that event ran their last 600m in 39.05 secs, which was 0.77 slower
(approximately 5.4 lengths).

DOLLARS returning to the winners circle
Congratulations and thank you to Dynamic Syndications Newcastle
based (nearly private) trainer Jason Deamer whose horse mastery had DOLLARS
looking a treat in the parade and trained up to be approaching his best and
ready to fire at the track and trip.
Impressively we are convinced that this will just top off DOLLARS
and his best is still yet to come for this preparation and he will be better
again next preparation with further maturity and racecraft.
A perfect ride by Lee Magorrian added to the delight
and DOLLARS repaid the faith depositing another stash of cash for his
terrif team of owners.
