It was a professional, tough and well-deserved victory for
the Jason Deamer trained Dynamic Syndications galloper PICCADERRO
who stepped out on Tuesday 28 April 2026 at Quirindi and got the job done in
the Murravale Retirement Home Benchmark 66 Handicap over 1600 metres.
Settling beautifully from Barrier 1 under the experienced
guidance of jockey Ben Looker, PICCADERRO enjoyed a soft run in
transit, positioned just behind the leader on the fence in fourth at the 800
metres before improving into third approaching the home turn.
As the field straightened, he shifted out off the heels of the leaders to the centre of the track.
He balanced up strongly and let down with purpose, digging
deep over the concluding stages to safely repel his competitive challengers and
secured the win by a half-length, with a short half-head back to third.
On a Good 3 surface, the race was run in a slick 1:38.07
with a sharp last 600 metres of 35.03, highlighting the genuine tempo and the
merit of the performance.
Post-race jockey Ben Looker commented:
“Yeah, thank you. I think
the one alley was a big advantage. The way it looked on paper, I thought Mikayla
and Scott's horse (Think Back) would be hard to beat. And I was able to just
land on his back. My bloke, he’s better with something to chase for longer, but
with the run I had and in the way I cruised up, I got there a bit sooner than I
would have liked, but to his credit, he fought hard. Well placed by Jason and the
Dynamic boys. Thank you.”
