Notice: SOCIABLE sustained a small bone fragment in his left knee during the Kilmore win after galloping so brilliantly to smash the clock.
The knee was medicated, and the stable pushed on and raced the horse two weeks later where his effort was considered below their expectations when finishing third.
Aware he needed the knee arthroscopy to remove the chip, and time to let the area settle down, Godolphin decided to sell the horse with full declaration, rather than undergoing the surgery and recuperation period.
Our veterinary advice after inspection reviewing the x-rays and scope was to "buy the horse" as "the arthroscopy appears simple and prognosis for a full return to racing is very good."
Sociable was purchased on 11 December, arrived from Victoria on 15 December and he was booked into Agnes Banks and the arthroscopy was performed successfully on the 19 December, four days after arrival. Sociable was then allowed the required 3 months recuperation.
SOCIABLE returned to light exercise on 24 March for 6 weeks of foundation exercise on a treadmill (no weight on his back), with long, slow walking, increasing weekly out to a trot under the supervision of our veterinarian and Shane Rose to ensure Sociable was maintaining soundness.
He passed this foundation phase without any issues.
Then on the 5th May he began training under saddle with Shane Rose who has reported he is pre-training without any concerns.
Sociable is expected to have a further two weeks foundation before moving across to Ciaron Maher.
We waited until now to offer him to our existing owners to ensure he was right to go.
All veterinary records are attached with our documentation.
Sociable should be at the trials in 6-8 weeks.
