Exciting staying prospect AMPLIFY resumed from a spell in the best way possible at Royal Randwick on Saturday, with a sensational performance that had commentators in raptures.
AMPLIFY swooping from last in the field of 10 over an unsuitably sharp 1400m won in a canter Race 9, THE INGLIS INFLUENCE HANDICAP 1400m Bm 78, easing down to record a widening 1.4 lengths margin as the camera flashed scoring her third race win and a stakes placing from 8 starts.

With the market considering our mare wants a trip, and 1400m would be a bit slick on a dry deck when carrying 57.0kgs, the market turned against our mare, and she started at a luxury $21.
However, nobody told AMPLIFY she couldn’t win. Tim Clark rode a superb tactical race to cruise to victory on our perfectly prepared Ciaron Maher trained mare.

The future looks bright for AMPLIFY who will be set for an ambitious but achievable black type programme over 1600m to 2000m in the early autumn.
AMPLIFY has been working extremely well into the first up run and we are aware she has the class, and this Benchmark 78 grade race was not beyond her ability. We also anticipated that the race would be run at a fast early tempo that could set the race up nicely for swoopers. With that as our plan, Tim Clark executed the race perfectly, and AMPLIFY was very strong late and through the line was just warming up as her peers wilted. Also, with rain on Friday evening and Saturday morning, we anticipated that the track would have a little give in it as a Good 4, rather than a concrete highway as a Good 3 that can often be found in summer.
The planets aligned and AMPLIFY got the cash.
As the gates crashed back, AMPLIFY was away evenly with the field and after 50m the tempo came into the race as expected. Tim grabbed hold of AMPLIFY and our mare eased out of the speed battle unfolding.
After the first 400m the leaders were Flying Thinker and Virgil’s Gift and they had put a lot of speed into the event and had the field spread out over 9 lengths with Tim having AMPLIFY bowling along, third last, seven off the pace, tracking stablemate Vienna Vixen.
There was no change in the pattern of the race as the field thundered down the side of the track to the 600m, except that AMPLIFY had drifted a further two lengths off the lead, now sitting in 9th spot in the field of 10 and now 9 lengths off the leaders.
Between the 600m and the point of the turn, the field began to tighten up whilst positions in running remained constant. Turning into the straight with 420m to run, Tim was tracking the widest runner and as a result that relegated him to last as the field balanced for the run home.
It wasn’t until the 350m that Tim pulled AMPLIFY out to the centre of the track and the margin had been reduced with AMPLIFY some 5 lengths off the leaders who were stopping due to their early petrol being spent.
Now with clear galloping room, still in 9th spot with 300m marker ticked off, AMPLIFY began to lengthen stride and let down into a beautiful rhythm.
Over the next 100m to the 200m pole, AMPLIFY had reeled in all her peers except the favourite Alabama Fox who had hit the front and was going strongly as punters were cheering. However, AMPLIFY was now only a half-length off Alabama Fox and finishing far stronger.
Alabama Fox fought hard to stave off our challenge but passing the 100m Tim had driven AMPLIFY to the lead.

Under hands and heels Tim kept AMPLIFY going strongly, and with 25m to run, there was no danger

and Tim was able to drop his hands and allow AMPLIFY to throttle down over the final 25m

to cruise past the camera with a dominant and widening 1.4 lengths margin.

Super impressively her Job was Done!
Racecaller Darren Flindell summed up the last 400m; “Turning for home Investment and Amplify the last two. Flying Thinker in front, Virgil’s Gift stoked up now, Alabama Fox is pulling out, Maid of Moolah taking a rails run. Down to 300m, Flying Thinker wants to run in a little bit and Alabama Fox is going to it strongly now, Alabama Fox takes the lead at the 200m, here’s Amplify coming with a good run down the outside and Amplify moved up to join Alabama Fox, Super Nui between them.
It's Amplify getting the upper hand now, and Amplify from well back, beats Alabama Fox, Maid of Moolah maybe third, from Super Nui. Amplify number 6. Ciaron Maher, Tim Clark.”

Greg Radley Sky Central host comments to Brad Gray from Sky Central: “Amplify, first up today since the Queensland Oaks. She was tested as a staying 3yo filly. She raced in the Adrian Knox, she ran second in the Gold Coast Bracelet, then she finished up in the Oaks, running seventh (2.2 lengths) behind You Whang. Went out for a break. Two trials into this, and it swept on them late, just after Alabama Fox who had the run of the race and looked all over the winner when swept up and hit the front but couldn't hold out Amplify, who was coming two to it’s one. Numbers to go up, it'll be 6, 11, 7 has run third Maid of Moolah, 3 has run fourth Super Nui. They have run 1:23.14, 35.72 the last 600 metres. Big win by Amplify! Might be in for a good prep Brad?”

Brad Gray then comments: “Some return to the races wasn’t it, Greg. So, the well named daughter of Microphone. The market said it was a race in two (Alabama Fox $2.30 – 2nd and Virgil’s Gift $3.60 – 10th) but Amplify ($21.00) had other ideas because there's no excuse at all there for your eventual favourite Alabama Fox. She (Amplify) ambled up to them and put them to the sword. So, we didn't really know where she would fit in long term, but on the strength of that return, she's coming back really well. So never easy for these horses to make that transition from three-year-olds to four-year-olds. It's always an unknown prospect. But that says that she certainly on her way.”

Brains Trust Post-Race debrief between Tim & Joh
Greg Radley continued: “6, 11, 7 and 3. It’s 1 ½ lengths was the winning margin. Waiting on (stable representative) Johann Gerard-Dubord (Aussie Joh) to talk to us about Amplify, we will then hear from Tim Clark. Aussie Joh is just on the phone to the boss obviously.”
Aussie Joh responded to Greg’s comment: “I was on the phone to the boss, he’s very happy, and Adam Watt (Dynamic) who is ecstatic. Yes, it’s good to get another win for Dynamic. They have had a good day. They had a second in the Grand Prix (Gr3 – Agent Zero) in Queensland, and it was very much a starting point for her (Amplify) today. It was a bit of a surprise. 1400m on a dry track, we thought it would be a bit sharp for her, which is why we just rode her quiet, just wanted to see her hit the line, but there was obviously good tempo, and she is one of those horses, she is very genuine, tries very hard, and once she had a bit of clear room, she was very good.”

Greg Radley then says: “You thought enough of her in the winter, late autumn, to test her in some of those staying fillies races, is her distances going to ramp up from here on in?”
Joh confirmed: “Yeah they will. And that’s why I wasn’t expecting that today. Because last prep, the further we stepped her up in trip, the better she was, and she did a great job, obviously she was black type placed last prep, and was unlucky not to run in the Top 3 in the Oaks in Queensland, she was on the wrong part of the track that day. So today is just a bonus. Good to get a win and she should improve plenty on the back of that. Thank you.”
Chantelle Buckley from Sky Central interviewed Tim Clark: “Well Done Tim, you had a sit on her in a trial, her first trial back, I guess nobody really expected her to do that today?”
Tim Clark answered: “It's obviously a testament to how well she has returned. But during the race and through the middle stages, she travelled really well in that, and the tempo they went, I thought I had to be in the finish. Obviously, she’s going to be better over further, so that strength over the back end of races was going to come into play late today and that's exactly how it panned out.”
Chantelle Buckley added: “It’s good that she did that first up and you would think would be in store for her?”
Tim agreed: “Definitely. Really good signs. She's always sort of shown glimpses and now she’s a little bit older and more mature, strengthened right up, and a great way to start her prep. Thank you.”
Tim Clark reported to owners and connections: “Yeah, she was excellent. Returned really well. Obviously, she’s matured nicely, and she gave me a beautiful ride throughout the race, settling nicely off the back of a good speed, and when they are going that pace, I was always confident that I was going to be in the finish, and she really let down with a really nice turn of foot. She's returned in great order. Thanks guys.”
