Unsure whether the Smile on the Dial of Dynamic Trainer JASON DEAMER was one of pure Happiness or Relief, with the truth being most likely both, after frustrating DOLLARS (4yo geld Written Tycoon x Stresa) finally found a race that, despite our galloper doing everything wrong, was still capable of getting the job done and break his Maiden at Newcastle on Thursday.
DOLLARS is a horse who would test the patience of a Saint.
So, for a Wonderful Team of Loyal Dynamic Owners, it was extremely rewarding that he finally worked where to stick his nose out where it mattered as the camera flashed to deliver a photo for the wall for his Ownership Team.

Most punters would be scared off by now as our galloper was facing the starter for his 9th Career start, having been a Maiden after 8 previous attempts, recording 2 Seconds, 2 Thirds, 1 Fourth, 2 Fifths and having banked $38,025.
However, DOLLARS, ridden by Ash Morgan, has been able to shed the unwanted Maiden tag by winning over 1600m at Newcastle in Race 2, the SURESCOPE CERTIFIERS Midway Maiden Hcp.

Starting well into the red as a $1.35 favourite, on a very testing Heavy Track, it should have been a matter of stay out of trouble and he should win by a gap but as Owners and Connections of DOLLARS know, our galloper is a “Deep Thinker” and if he can find any way of making things more difficult for himself, he will achieve that result with excellence.
Hence again today, the thrill-seeking punters who were prepared to back DOLLARS with their own hard earned, would have had palpitations between the 200m and the 50m as DOLLARS again was able to duck, dive and roll about like a drunken sailor.
However, class, fitness, Jason Deamer polish and horse husbandry skills of our jockey Ash Morgan all kicked in to allow DOLLARS (58.0kgs) to post a 0.48 length victory over Highland Lad (57.5kgs) with the second favourite Brute Nature (59.0kgs) back in third spot 4.35 lengths behind DOLLARS.
Tactically these small races can be tricky affairs and add-in the fact that DOLLARS had been his own worse enemy previously, it was always going to be an adrenaline rush watching the ride.
We asked Ash to be positive and then just see how it unfolded in front of him. If peers wanted to go harder, let them go and take the trail or if they all wanted to look at each other we were happy to lead.
Jumping away from barrier 1, DOLLARS was bang on the bunny and controlled the first 100m before Kegan Latham on Extra Power made a dash to take control and at that point Jay Ford on Brute Nature worked across to sit at its girth.
Ash had found the paint, one pair back with cover and the race maintained its shape until the point of the home straight.

As the field compacted entering the lane, Brute Nature peeled out wider looking for better ground which allowed Ash to angle out off the heels of Extra Power who was starting to yield. Passing the 300m DOLLARS had swept to the front and that’s when the amusement began.

For the next 100m from 4-deep in the straight, all DOLLARS wanted to do was make a determined effort to head back into the rail, despite Ash trying to keep him out wider. Our galloper took control of the rider and laid-in hampering Extra Power at that point. Whilst Ash was fighting him, DOLLARS wasn’t concentrating putting the race to bed and was in for a wrestle. This allowed Highland Lad to roll up along the fence.

At the 100m marker Ash had enough of his antics and pulled the whip to his right hand and gave him one reminder and as soon as that happened DOLLARS looked up and saw the screen and winning post and then wanted to lay out away from those structures.

Ash had to balance DOLLARS up again and then stop him from running about.
Fortunately, DOLLARS was several grades better than his peers and despite being naughty, was able to be ridden hands and heels the final 75m to score his first victory.

JOB DONE!
DOLLARS has always displayed talent, as his form confirms. Last start he was highly effective when a 0.48 length 3rd at Warwick Farm but again throwing the race away after hitting the front at the 200m. Prior to that he was 0.9 length 2nd at Newcastle.
DOLLARS is a slow maturing type that has always shown us that he wants time to grown into his frame and would benefit significantly from a proper spell having previously only having had short freshen-ups between preps.
This was his 5th race start for Jason Deamer having transferred from Ciaron Maher in March and with today’s win has earned $47,575 under Jason from his overall bank of $59,025.
4 of his 5 starts with Jason, DOLLARS has started very short-priced favourite. Whilst he got the chocolates today at $1.35, he has been a beaten favourite at $2.25 then at $1.24 and also at $1.70.
Trainer, Riders, and Connections have always been confident the horse will show his true talent with more time and maturity and our horse will benefit from running around in the paddock with the Spring on his back.
When he resumes, we are all keen to see him out further in distance, as he gives riders a feel that he want’s at least 2000m which is interesting for a horse that is a 3/4 brother to Capitalist.

Race caller closing stages: “Coming to the bend 550m out, Extra Power and narrow leader over Brute Nature, Dollars still travelling nicely. Just on the back of the speed. Painted Wings peels out three wide, followed by Tory Pines under pressure, and Highland Lad back with it.”
“Extra Power kicks in the straight and that allows Dollars to get to run around it and it goes straight to the front now Dollars. With 250 metres left ago. Brut Nature battles away. Highland Lad makes ground the inside. Dollars wants to run about. It's a length in front over Highland Lad, Brut Nature battling away, Extra Power. Dollars in front, Highland Lad not going away. Dollars pushed out close to the line gets in today. Dollars breakthrough over Highland Lad who ran a bold race, Brute Nature some margin away third.”
Gavin Carmody from Sky Central comments: “Another slogging go there but DOLLARS justifies the short quote, did take some riding from Ash Morgan, there’s not much of him, he had the 58.0kgs and just wanted to roll about a little bit.
“Highland Lad to his credit he stuck on with plenty of grit and determination and made the favourite earn it. Brute Nature winds up in third spot after over racing early and Extra Power who eventually led them up will wind up in fourth. But the favourite gets the job done today at start 9.
Mel Turner joined the commentary: “Yeah, he deserves that. He began well, he actually found the front, but there's a bit of pressure early so Ash was happy to let the speed go. He settled leaders back and when the gap appeared he sprinted nicely, but over the final stages just wants to get in a little bit, but he is fairly lightly raced. He's only having his 9th career start here today, and I'm sure Jason will put him away he's going to be a horse that will just continue to improve with racing. He gets his first career win here today.
“Highland Lad has run much better today with the blinkers going back on and a more positive ride. Brut Nature will continue to improve with racing. Just wanted to overdo it in the early stages and 4th will go the way of Extra Power.
Back to Gavin who adds: “So, DOLLARS the winner at start 9 after 4 placings from 8 starts prior to today.
“He wins at his ninth go this afternoon for Jason Deamer. A son of Written Tycoon out of a Real Saga mare and he wins the second event by 1/2 a length and Jason’s about to join us. It was his day today, Jason.
Jason Deamer smiles and responds: “Yeah, finally. Yeah, he's not fully there in the head, you know. Obviously, he was always going to win, but he just doesn't have to put him away or anything. Yeah, to his credit he’s still learning. Punters are probably sick of him, and gave up on him by today, but yeah, he will probably go for a break right now. He had a little freshen up before he came to me and he's always knocking on the door. He’ll have a good break now. He’s got a nice big size, he’s just got to fill into that big frame and once he learns to put it all together he will be right.
Gavin says: “You're right he's still learning isn't he.? Next prep he will be a better horse
Jason concludes: “Yeah like even then, When he got to the front he rolled in and rolled out but he got there! Thank you.”
Mal laughs: “I’m sensing a bit of relief for today!”
Gavin acknowledges: “A big sigh of relief!”
“DOLLARS wins by a half with 3 ¾ between second and third. The overall time they put up 1:42.79. Just waiting on that last 600 metres. Second horse was good, stuck on well Highland Lad, only having start 3 today, so there are wins in that fella for sure and certain, but Ash Morgan partnering the winner DOLLARS.
Mel agreed saying: "It looked to have found the right race. It was just a matter of, with a bit of even luck, and handling this heavy track. DOLLARS had been placed on heavy ground a few runs ago. That was here first-up. So, we had similar conditions. He was obviously rock hard fit. So yeah, I like the fact that Jason is going to give him a little break now. He can go out with a bit of confidence and only lightly raced; he will continue to just improve. And we will catch up with our winning rider.
“Well done Ash, he was able to find the front, but you had to let a couple go.”
Ash Morgan said: “Yeah, that's right. Look he’s a horse that jumps really quick but then doesn't take the rider through. He's got a little bit of upside, more than you think. I think he's a horse who is going to benefit from a spell but in this case, we wanted to get a Win with him before we tipped him out and it was hopefully going to be today. I thought that his last 2 or 3 runs so, I'm glad it was today so he can take improvement from the spell.
Mel chimed in: "And you could see when he actually found the front, he was quite lost.”
Ash continued: “Yeah, he really did. The same at Warwick Farm. I was actually going to win on him, and he just got lost racing down the centre. So, I was keen to let him drift to the fence when I got my gap. He’s a 2400m horse, so we will give him a chance.
Back to the Sky Central studio: “Yes, the favourite too strong. DOLLARS at $1.30 and $1.10. Still learning what it's all about, was able to restrain, get into the box seat. The gap opened up nicely and Ash Morgan was able to push this 4yo by Written Tycoon through, and although he didn't exactly put them away, he's done enough to score, and I think he'll really enjoy that spell and hopefully come back a little bit stronger next time round.”
Post-Race Jason Deamer chatted to Ash Morgan to get a report for the Owners.
Jason Deamer starts by saying: “Hi Ash, that was good to see DOLLARS break his maiden today.”
Ash responded: “Yeah good. Good deserving win from him. He’s been running well without winning. So, it’s good to get the win with him before he goes out. I think he's a horse that’s going to get further next preparation. All he wants to do for you is switch off in the run. Our intention was to lead but he just wanted to spit the bit. I was happy to take the sit and fair to him he did quicken up underneath horses when I first went for him and then late, he's always just looking for something to help him along. So, he's going to improve physically and mentally into next prep and there's a little bit of upside to him. Thank you.”
