DYNAMIC Buy VINACEOUS and Our OWNERS Anticipate Developing a Palate for GRANGE

01 Jun 19

Dynamic Syndications purchased two fabulous 3YO Fillies to own and race at the Magic Millions National Sale on 28 May and the second purchased filly Lot 978 is a spectacular specimen of a high-class racing prospect.

VINACEOUS (NZ) has only had 7 races starts and in her one and only racing preparation her feats were enough to grab our attention to ensure she joined our TEAM.

She is a Winner at 2000m, was placed at 1690m, and her 6th and 7th starts were both in Stakes Races over 2200m in the Natasha S. LR and the WA Oaks 2400m where she was very competitive.

So, What’s in a Name? VINACEOUS for those who aren’t wine buffs is used to describe the Colour of Red Wine.”

So, we anticipate will be cracking open a few cases of Grange if our filly measures up to our lofty plans as we are aiming at the Matriarch Stakes at Flemington in the Spring.

She certainly has the pedigree to achieve this being by a truly Champion Sire from a brilliant Stakes Winning mare and the mare is also a half-sister to a Gr1 Oaks Winner – It’s a fantastic opportunity to own and race a "TOP SHELF" Filly.

Potential Pedigree Upside #1

Lincoln Dreamer the 4yo Full Brother trialled twice recently:

30 April at Foxton ran 3rd beaten 0.3 len

21 May at Otaki ran 2nd beaten 0.3 len

Mature now and ready to race he should be winning on the strength of his trials once the trips get up to 1600m – 2000m.

Potential Pedigree Upside #2

Traduce the 2yo Full Brother is trained by Kris Lees and owned by Aquis Stud. They paid $190,000 for the colt.

Currently spelling he was impressive in a trial on 17 April at Newcastle when 4th over 800m.

Hit the line strongly and only warmed up approaching the post.

Obviously needs 2000m like his full sister but was stylish in his trial.

Potential Pedigree Upside #3

Last year there was a $300,000 yearling filly now 2yo by SAVABEEL out of 2nd Dam JACILO that went to Chris Waller so that’s the ¾ sister to our filly.

Whilst Danny O’Brien has the $130,000 yearling filly by Sacred Falls out of JACILO.

Potential Pedigree Upside #4

Gr1 Winning MISS KEEPSAKE the half-sister to the Dam of our filly VILLIFYE, has already produced COLLECTABLE (by Sebring) who has run 4th in the Gr3 Ethereal Stakes behind Verry Elleegant and Aristia as a lead up to the VRC Oaks but found the 2500m beyond her as a spring 3yo and was spelled.

She then resumed this preparation to win over 1400m first up then ran an eye-catching third to Princess Jenni.

Whilst her yearling in 2019 a Filly by Wandjina sold for $300,000.

VINACEOUS is a lovely, big, strong and correct filly.

She is a particularly good sort but was presented poorly having been turned out in a spelling paddock without a rug in the Widden Valley which is known for its cool overnight temperatures.

The filly was presented with a "rough paddock condition thick winter coat" which looked out of place on the Gold Coast against her peers considering the mild temperatures. However, as horsemen we look past the presentation to review the bone and muscle and that was evident.

Typical of a $210,000 yearling she is a class filly and was a salering steal.

The phone has since rung hot as people have tried to buy her outright however we are not interested in turning a quick profit because would rather have this impeccably bred and well conformed filly race for our Dynamic Syndications owners.

Dynamic Syndications have selected rising young gun Victorian trainer MATT LAURIE and Mornington to prepare the filly to have an assault on the rich Black Type racing available in the Spring in Melbourne where we believe this filly deserves to be aimed.

MATT LAURIE - Our Trainer

Bred on the incredibly successful A+++ SAVABEEL / O’REILLY Cross (12 Stakes Winners) our filly has shown good racing upside and undoubtedly her best racing career is infront of her.

She has had one racing preparation which started with 2 barrier trials before heading to the races where she raced 7 starts in a row going from a 1200m maiden to running in the 2400m WA Oaks. She won over 2000m, was placed over 1690m and was close up in two stakes races over 2200m and 2400m.

Purchased with middle distance racing in mind, this filly when she returns to racing offers an incredible opportunity to achieve racetrack success and if we can win a race or two in the metro area, she would be worth many times more than what we paid for her in the salering.

VINACEOUS is from the O’Reilly mare VILLIFYE.

She won 4 races -3 in succession- 1200m to 1600m. She won the Gr2 BOP RC Japan-New Zealand International Trophy. She also was Gr2 placed when 3rd in the ARC Rich Hill Mile Gr2 and was 3rd in the Rotorua Challenge Stakes LR. She was 4th in the Gr2 Cambridge JC Travis S., and WRC Anniversary H., LR.

VILLIFYE is a half-sister to brilliant race filly MISS KEEPSAKE. She was Third on the NZ 3YO Free Hcp at 1600m + when recording 5 wins from 1300m to 2400m and $529,035. She won the Queensland Oaks Gr1, Illawarra TC AJ Lillye Memorial H., 2nd in the ATC Queen Of The Turf Gr1, ATC Aspiration H., LR, she was 3rd in the Queensland Derby Gr1, ATC Bill Ritchie H. Gr3, Gosford RC Belle Of The Turf LR and 4th in the ATC Villiers S., Gr2 and Angst S., LR.

Whilst our filly’s 3rd DAM is MY TRIPOS by Sir Tristram. She is a Full Sister to dual Gr1 winner and successful sire GROSVENOR, also Gr1 Winner NATIONAL GALLERY, Gr3 Winner KYRIE ELEISON, Stakes Winner GARFUNKLE and to the dam of REQUIEM and LAUREL GROVE.

She is a three-quarter sister to Stakes Winners MAHAYA, BON CHER, DE LISLE, VERNAL and Stakes Placed ANA ZEEL – herself the Dam of ESTELLE COLLECTION, also Stakes Placed TRICIA ANN – Dam of LA SIZERANNE along with stakes placed TRISTINO and FANCIFILLY.

MY TRIPOS is a half-sister to Stakes Winner MY MARSEILLAISE and to Concia – Dam of SHADEA.

This family is NZ Stud Book Royalty.

Passed a detailed vet inspection by Dr Greg Nash prior to the sale. A physical examination was conducted including full flexion, stethoscope (heart rhythm), ophthalmological and an endoscopic evaluation was performed.

VINACEOUS was passed as sound and right for racing.

Race Review:

On debut
having had two lead in barrier trials, VINACEOUS was put into a 1200m Open SW Maiden against the males and the older horses.

Surprisingly she went out $3.80 favourite however this was obviously far too short for a horse bred this way was and being used as an education race for bigger targets later.

Second Start: 12 days later in a 1412m 3YO SW Maiden she ran an encouraging 5th of 11 when leading throughout but was out sprinted the final 100m to finish just 1.25 lens from the winner and 0.5 lens from third position. This was a change of race tactic to lead that didn’t suit the filly at her second raceday appearance. She eased in betting from $10 to $14.

Third Start: 21 days later at 1690m was much more to her liking. Against the boys and older horses in an Open Maiden the filly hit the line strongly from mid-field on the turn to run second by 0.45 length with a big 2.75 lens back to third. This proved to be a strong form race. The winner Mackenzie Brooke had travelled on speed and went on to win another race afterward and then ran 3rd in the WA Oaks whilst back in third spot was Princess Pierro who was already Stakes Placed prior to heading into this event. Betting here was $6 to $8.50

Fourth Start: 10 days later and up to 2000m the filly shone when winning by 2 lengths. She sat closer to the speed here when one pair back and as the field straightened, she ran away to record a soft victory against the older horses.

Fifth Start: 14 days later - This appears on form to have been a throw away to be ready for the bigger assignments. They dropped back from 2000m to 1690m and took on Class 3 company against the older horses. The margin shows she was beaten 8.5 lens but that was deceiving. The winner won by 5.75 lengths and he went on to run 4th 2nd and 2nd his next 3 starts all in Stakes Races. Whilst the horses that finished second and third have won metro races since. However, the reason we conclude this was a throw away and more a barrier trial than an effort was the fact they raced the filly again just 6 days later in a Stakes Race over 2200m. Its obvious that the trainer believed the 3 weeks between runs into the stakes race and up to 2200m may be a bit too long a break so dropping back to a mile kept her ticking over.

Sixth Start: 6 days later – Natasha Stakes Listed Race 2200m. Backing up in 6 days didn’t suit the filly. She ran well to finish 2.5 lengths from the winner in 6th spot having travelled mid-field but the preparation was rushed and backing up saw the filly race honestly but she didn’t hit the line as she had earlier.

Seventh Start: 14 days later - WA Oaks the third wheel in owner Bob Peters three fillies in the prestigious WA Oaks the filly was not considered a major chance and was $31 to $41. Having been closer in transit previously the team elected for whatever reason to go back in the field and settle at the tail. Her run was honest and she tried hard to only go down by 3.5 lengths.

Considering the preparation and this was her 7th start plus two barrier trials prior to her debut, this filly had shown toughness and strength and most importantly ability however it was obvious that the hard work had told yet she didn’t let anybody down.

The filly was immediately sent to the paddock and then sent to the Hunter Valley to be prepared for the broodmare sale along with others from owner Bob Peters. This is the owner’s practice. To him its about winning the stakes races as a 3yo and once their 3yo season is finished they are surplus to his needs and they go out the door to make way for the next crop of youngsters.

The filly has had 8 weeks off so is technically ready to go back into work however since she has had such a hard first preparation and then was road transported to the Hunter Valley, then up to the Gold Coast and now back to Sydney, we have decided it’s the right thing for the filly to give her another 4 weeks off to get over the stress of travel and enjoy the mild start to winter we are experiencing with the sun on her back before resuming training.

Pre-Training: We have pencilled her into starting pre-training on Monday 1st July.
