Right from the start of his career, Dundeel did what very few horses are able to do
and made history every step of the way:

•    Progressed from a New Zealand 2YO maiden win to Sydney 3YO Group 1 success
      in five starts in 2012.

•    The first horse in history to win all four Group 1 3YO races in Sydney,
      the Spring Champion Stakes, Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby.

•    Won the Derby by 6 lengths, running his final 400 metres faster than
      world champion sprinter Black Caviar in the 1200-metre T.J. Smith Stakes on the same day.

•    Resumed at 4 to defeat previously unbeaten champion mare Atlantic Jewel
      in the Group 1 MRC Underwood Stakes.

•    His bravura grand final victory was in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes
      in a contest worthy of the inaugural running of The Championships.

Dundeel is a complete expression of the genetics that have shaped the very best Australasian thoroughbreds of the past half-century: Northern Dancer, Sir Tristram and Star Kingdom.

Dundeel’s sire High Chaparral by the legendary Sadler’s Wells, was a six-time Group 1 winner and an exceptional source of racing class, with 11 Australian Group 1 winners to his credit.

Like Dundeel, his grand-dam Staring was a champion 3YO who achieved Classic success, in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks, and returned at four to triumph in Group 1 weight-for-age company.

Dundeel’s damsire is the great Zabeel, multiple champion sire of 45 Group 1 winners, and now a champion broodmare sire.

Staring’s paternal grand-sire Luskin Star epitomised the precocity and class of the Star Kingdom sire-line, as a champion 2YO whose 7-length victory in the 1977 Golden Slipper remains unequaled.

DUNDEEL - HIS RACE RECORD



Dundeel was one of just a rare handful of racehorses capable of progressing from a New Zealand 2YO maiden win to Sydney 3YO Group 1 success in only five starts.



Dundeel did it within six months in 2012, culminating with victory in the ATC Spring Champion S. Gr1.



Then in the autumn of 2013, Dundeel made history.

In the Group 1 Randwick Guineas over 1600 metres he once again defeated Proisir who had run bravely in the Spring Champion.

Two weeks later he romped home by a massive 6.8 lengths in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas, giving him a chance to become the first horse in history to win all four Group 1 3YO races in Sydney.

Hall of Fame Horses: Phar Lap, Tulloch, Kingston Town, Strawberry Road, Octagonal, Flight and Peter Pan all won the Australian Derby but none of them won it the way Dundeel did.

He scored running his final 400 metres faster than world champion sprinter Black Caviar could in the 1200m T.J. Smith Stakes on the same day.

Dundeel's subsequent international rating of 121 ranked him second only to Ruler Of The World in the Intermediate 3YO category on the official 2013 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.

He was also named the 2013 Champion New Zealand 3YO & 2013 New South Wales Champion Horse of the Year.

It looked like he was on top of the mountain, but those Derby-winning Hall of Fame Horses had all returned at four to win at weight-for-age.

This Kiwi still had a point to prove to a demanding Australian public.

Dundeel did exactly what he needed to do when he out-fought and out-sprinted the previously unbeaten Atlantic Jewel in the Group 1 MRC Underwood Stakes over 1800 metres at Caulfield in September 2013.

Dundeel then returned to Sydney in the Autumn of 2014, adding three Group 1 placings to his resume before his grand final in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick over 2000 metres.

It was a contest worthy of the inaugural running of The Championships.



Dundeel’s heroic victory over Sacred Falls & Carlton House earned him the status as the Champion of his generation.

We’ve had a lot of success buying horses bred at Arrowfield.

Considering her excellent conformation and the strength and depth of the female family, add in her pedigree genetics scoring A+++ this filly was secured at a price representing to the team at Dynamic a significant discount to our market appraisal of her true commercial value. 

We had intended to make her a target before the sale commenced. However we were also very keen on Lot 393 which Arrowfield were offering. We had only wanted to take one home from the Classic and keep our powder dry to buy a big filly at the upcoming Inglis Easter Sale. 

We got off to a flyer buying LOT 1 by DUNDEEL x FAIROUZ for $80,000 + GST.

That was the filly's reserve price set by Arrowfield

Our job was DONE! 

We also would take home Lot 393 who was an equally high selection but was just catalogued after Lot 1.

We considered we were FULL. 
 
We had done our due diligence and the filly was sound and right of wind and limb. Clean Scope (Grade 1) and Low Risk X-Rays. 

Having purchased Lot 1 and Lot 393 of the sale from Arrowfield, we are convinced these fillies had met our objective, and we were satisfied that we could walk away from the Classic with 2 very nice horses and further ammunition to wait for the Easter sale. 

Arrowfield loved their filly, and we had done the due diligence and knew she was sound and right of wind and limb. 

JOB DONE!

Lot 1 was heading home with Team Dynamic. 

We are convinced we have a high-quality filly to aim at the 3yo classic races.

We have purchased a filly with good residual and the propensity to become a quality equine athlete and that could see her commercial value skyrocket.

Our veterinarian Dr Tim Roberts inspected the yearling prior to purchase and believed this youngster to be a quality individual and a chance of being a successful equine athlete with no visual clinical issues likely to prevent it from reaching its racing potential.

Before purchase, the 42 X-Rays deposited in the sale ground X-Ray Repository facility were examined. There were no abnormal findings noted.

The horse was approved by Dr. Roberts for Dynamic Syndications to purchase in the salering.

After purchase, an endoscopic test on the horse's airway was performed and the result was the horse had normal function.

Also a blood test was performed and revealed no abnormal findings.

That’s going to give you the advantage of having the scope and development you would expect from a middle distance to staying type of High Chaparral mare.

"I can see her running nice races as a late 2yo over some ground. I think she will get up there and do something before she is three, but it’s all in front of her in her three-year-old year. She is one to aim at the good middle distance races.

"Just a lovely filly – She’s a big, strong, good bodied horse, really powerful athlete. Plenty of bone underneath her and strides out with purpose with terrific action and propulsion.

"She is the perfect Stamina type and has clean X-rays and a Grade 1 scope.”

Valuation Price:

Considering HER outstanding conformation and the strength and depth of the female family and the A+++ pedigree genetics this individual was secured at a price representing terrific value to the team at Dynamic.

We had valued the yearling at $120,000 (+ one bid $130,000).

We felt she was a terrific type and the page added value. The Dam has had 1 yearling colt (First Foal) offered for sale at the Inglis Classic in 2025 by THE AUTUMN SUN sell for $160,000 (2.66 x $60,000 Service Fee).

DUNDEEL Service Fee was $80,000 + GST. A filly with this page at this sale where the 2025 Sale average was $93,960 and Median was $70,000, we believed she would be good buying at 1.5 times Service Fee. 

Having done our due diligence and the filly passing as sound and right of wind and limb, we were happy to bid and buy in our price range. 

Just prior to the commencement of the sale we checked with Arrowfield where they had set their reserve.

We were delighted to be advised it was $80,000 which was Service Fee. The filly was the property of a breeding syndicate and was a Foal Share so a low reserve was set to cover costs and let the market decide her value. 

As can happen at horse auctions, the first few lots into the sale ring is a cat and mouse game as buyers and sellers are unsure of the market and where the levels should be set. We knew what we were comfortable to pay for her, the rest was up to competition. 

We ensured our bidding would be on the even legs to land on the reserve of $80,000 knowing we would be the $100,000 then $120,000 if required in a bidding battle, which was our ceiling.  

To secure the filly at $80,000 + GST was $40,000 (33.3%) less than our market appraisal of the true commercial value and this represented exceptional value that we now pass onto our owners.
