A filly we had prized highly in the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the 2026 Inglis Classic was Lot 393 by successful sire MAURICE (JPN) from the USA bred mare SCANDALEUSE (USA).

Another filly with a beautifully bred international female family, SCANDALEUSE (USA) was targeted as a breeding prospect for Australian conditions when purchased by Arrowfield Stud from the Keeneland 2019 Breeding Sales and flown to Australia to continue her breeding career.
Tactically it was a very good decision, as the mare mates very well with certain sire lines and one of those is MAURICE - a son of SCREEN HERO who is a Son of GRASS WONDER a Son of SILVER HAWK.
Whilst SCANDALEUSE (USA) is a daughter of WAR FRONT, a son of DANZIG who is a son of NORTHERN DANCER.
There have been 18 Stakes Winners bred on the 3 x 3 cross of GRASS WONDER (Sire of Screen Hero Sire of MAURICE) over NORTHERN DANCER (Sire of Danzig Sire of WAR FRONT).

MAURICE himself is bred this way and has a definite affinity with Northern Dancer line mares.
This 3 x 3 Cross has produced 4 Gr1 Winners; 5 Gr2 Winners; 2 Gr3 Winners and 7 Listed Winners.
Stakes Winners are:
MAURICE 2011 C G1 SCREEN HERO ex MEJIRO FRANCES (CARNEGIE)

So, the filly has a genetic pattern closely related to these talented stakes winners, it is remarkable that this is the first time that MAURICE has covered a War Front broodmare. Most daughters of War Front are in the USA, so opportunities have been rare.
It’s exciting to pursue this cross, and the filly herself is a quality equine athlete to match a stunning page.
This filly is bred to be a miler plus individual who could easily stretch out beyond 2000m with time.
Her Dam SCANDALEUSE (USA) was a winner at a mile in the USA.
SCANDALEUSE is a direct descendant of 5 individual Stakes Winners which is remarkable and highlights the strength of the female family.
The 2nd Dam ARUNA won 7 races from 1600m to 2200m including a Gr1, 2 x Gr2; Gr3 and a Listed Race and was Gr1 placed.
The 3rd Dam SUYRA won 5 races from 1600m to 1800m and was a Gr2, Gr3 and Listed winner and Gr1 performer.
The 4th Dam WILD PLANET won 3 races and was a Stakes Winner and Gr3 placed from 1207m to 1600m.
Her 5th Dam IVORY WINGS won 4 races and was a dual Listed Winner and Gr1 placed.
Whilst her 6th Dam KITTIWAKE was a Gr2 winner and won 18 races.
So, we know the cross works, and we know how strong the female pedigree is.
MAURICE has been a success as a sire both here in Australia and Japan.

Standing the Southern Hemisphere breeding season at Arrowfield Stud, MAURICE is the best Japanese racehorse ever to stand at stud outside Japan.
MAURICE is now the sire of 34 stakes winners with seven Group 1 winners including triple Australian Classic winner Hitotsu.

HITOTSU

So, when considering MAURICE, we are dealing with a highly successful sire, who was the leading Australian Second Crop Sire of 2021-22. His successful data has been highlighted.
Next - We are looking at a female family that is literally dripping in Black-Type. It’s extremely rare to find 5 directly descending females that are all highly successful stakes winning racehorses and as highlighted, that is exactly what our filly descends from.
Further, we know the cross has been proven at Gr1 level and the sire MAURICE is bred on the same cross that is being reinforced back through the broodmare sire War Front. This is rated an GeoNick A+++ in Australia.
We also know the Sire was a Champion Miler and the Female Family have all been outstanding milers.
We also know SCANDALEUSE (USA) has produced 2 winners including her first Australian foal Written Scandal who was a $320,000 yearling and has won 2 races to date.
Having done our due diligence, this filly met every metric we search for to identify tomorrow’s champions today.
Then the horse has to match the data, and this filly certainly did that.
A lovely, well balanced, athletic individual with size and scope to grow. She has excellent conformation and a terrific length of rein.
She passed our inspections and then our vet Dr Tim Roberts gave her the green light to proceed with low-risk X-rays and a Grade 1 Scope.
Specifically, we were in the market to buy a filly with huge upside, very limited downside and from an elite nursery.
Having purchased Lot 1 of the sale from Arrowfield, we are convinced that filly we had met our objective, and we were satisfied that we could walk away from the Classic with a nice horse and further ammunition to wait for the Melbourne Premier and then the Easter sale.
We were advised by the Team at Arrowfield that they were going to place an $80,000 reserve on the filly in the ring. So already with Lot 1 we were going to let Lot 393 find another home.
The filly presented well in the salering but was passed in at $70,000 on an $80,000 reserve.
Arrowfield loved their filly, and we had done the due diligence and knew she was sound and right of wind and limb.
Arrowfield approached us and asked if we were interested in doing a deal with them on the filly.
We responded that we liked her a lot and had we not purchased Lot 1, we would have purchased Lot 393 but we were now full so $80,000 was beyond our budget.
After a bit of banter between mates, the conversation swung back to what deal we would like to do?
We said we were happy to pay service fee for her, on the proviso that Arrowfield supported their filly and purchased 20%.
Without hesitation, due to our friendship and close working relationship, we shook hands and the deal was complete.
JOB DONE! Lot 393 was heading home with Team Dynamic.
Both parties are convinced we have a high-quality filly to aim at the 3yo classic races.
Again, we have purchased a filly with good residual and the propensity to become a quality equine athlete and that could see her commercial value skyrocket.
Arrowfield Stud statistics speak for themselves but at the Inglis Classic they punch well above their peers.
It’s been a smart move to buy from Arrowfield at the 2021-24 Inglis Classic Yearling Sales. The fact is Arrowfield’s ratio of Stakes Winners to Lots Offered through those past four Sales, is three times better than the rest of the sale.
In a sport where small differences have big consequences, every fair advantage a buyer can find is worth having.
“Race the BEST with the BEST” isn’t just a catchphrase, it’s a philosophy we abide by, as is “Our Due Diligence is our Owners Quality Assurance.”
We have purchased two fabulous fillies from Australia’s Leading Thoroughbred Nursery who has the best statistics in the industry and especially at the Classic sale. These fillies have been deliberately bred to produce superior racing opportunity. They have the genetics to support that claim, and they have the conformation and type to match their page.
These are fillies to saviour for aiming at the big money Black Type races of their 3yo year.
“You keep digging where you find gold” and “we know that the apple doesn’t roll far from the tree.” All the data is in your favour when you buy yearlings under these circumstances.
Our Owners have an opportunity to prosper on decades of built trust between Arrowfield and Dynamic.
We are delighted to have purchased both these fillies – Lot 1 and Lot 393 from Arrowfield and invite you to consider joining us on the path to Classic success.
