Dynamic 3yo AGENT ZERO broke his maiden status with authority under hands and heels on Sunday at Hawkesbury and set a standard that suggests trips between 1600m to 2400m will be very much to his liking throughout his racing career.

Bred to stick like chewing gum to a blanket, AGENT ZERO (Snitzel x Benitoite by Americain) has a female line that strongly suggests the further he goes the better he will be.
His Dam Benitoite is by Melbourne Cup winner Americain (by Dynaformer) who won 5 races out to 1700m and was 4th in the Gr1 Coolmore Classic.
Benitoite is from The Gem (by Scenic - a son of Sadler's Wells) who was stakes placed in the Murray Bridge Gold Cup winning 4 races to 1516m. The Gem is a sister to Market Price (10 wins to 1900m inc Gr2 Blamey). Whilst the Danehill x Dynaformer cross has produced 4 Gr1 winners at 3200m.
The way AGENT ZERO demolished his peers, gives his ownership team reasons to dream bigger than a provincial maiden.
Facing the starter for his sixth racecourse appearance, AGENT ZERO was finally at a trip that he would enjoy when lining up at 1600m to contest the COLDMASTER MAIDEN PLATE (1600m).
AGENT ZERO trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Keagan Latham, jumped from Barrier 5 carrying 57.5kgs.
Starting at a luxury $4.80, the 3yo son of Snitzel / Benitoite gave nothing else a chance when running away under hands and heels to post a widening 3.18 lengths victory over his two stablemates Blue Blood Prince (57.5kgs) and Royal Princess (55.5kgs). On a Good 4, he ran a Time: 1:37.19 and Last 600m: 0:35.40 banking 1st prizemoney of $20,550 + BOBS Bonus.
AGENT ZERO had always shown the team well above average ability but it’s been a case of laying strong foundations for our horse to progress out to these further distances.
He can get into a rhythm and just keep going. He may lack a turn of foot needed at short trips but will run through brick walls, so the further the better. He seems a horse that 1600m suits but 1800m will be better, and 2000m would be preferred, whilst 2400m may be the sweet spot, but time will tell.
Here at Hawkesbury, he was away evenly before pushing forward into the bridle and began to extend his stride, allowing AGENT ZERO to cruise forward and sit at the girth of the leader Alpino, who was setting a genuine tempo.
The field started to spread out over a dozen lengths as they passed the 1000m marker, and there was no change in the order, as the field thundered around the top turn and came down the side of the track.
Approaching the 600m Keegan was sitting still , as the leader started to be urged along approaching the home turn.
Swinging into the straight and passing the 400m marker, Keegan let the brakes off and AGENT ZERO bounded away. There were no dangers coming out of the ruck, and it was just a matter of Keegan keeping AGENT ZERO balanced, settled and enjoying the sport.

Passing the 200m it was a matter of how far the margin would be, and

Keegan was able to ease down the final 100m to canter across the line 3.18 lengths clear of his peers.

Keegan reported to the owner’s post-race:
“Yeah, very good performance from him today. He did everything right, he jumped away nicely and put himself right there, and to be honest, a long way out, he was travelling that well, I felt it would need a very good one to come past him. He felt that he had his jet fuel on today, and when asked for an effort, he was again a long way in front and all he wanted to do was please me. So overall, it was a very good effort, and I think he’s a horse that’s definitely on the up. He’s obviously taken a long time to get to this point, and I am sure there is more improvement to come. Thank you.”
