Jockey Jay Ford & Peter Snowden at Rosehill -   PETER SNOWDEN is Dynamic Again !

Team Dynamic and Team Snowden together at the Magic Millions Sales in January

When the news broke on the 20th November 2013 that Peter Snowden and his son Paul were resigning from the Darley Operations to embark on a training partnership together, it was fantastic for the team at Dynamic.

We had been working closely years before with Peter when we had horses trained by John Hawkes under the Ingham Bloodstock stables and Peter and Dean developed a strong working relationship.

During that period we had many highlights and won many races including the race that our own Dynamic horse named Grand Cause won at Rosehill with Darren Beadman in the saddle and that victory set a New Riding Record in Australia.

Beadman sets his Australian Riding Record                 Another Randwick Winner with PETER SNOWDEN

We were delighted for Peter that he was appointed Head Trainer for Darley however our only regret was the operation was a private stable and Peter was unable to train horses outside the Darley operations.

So when announced he was embarking on a career change to go into partnership with his son - Within 72 hours of the announcement Peter Snowden and Dean Watt were back as a team when we agreed to act together for the benefit of our clients. The sons Adam and Paul had spoken straight after the news broke about joining forces again and the fathers Dean and Peter had a meeting two days later and it was fantastic for both of businesses to be working closely again.

The hardest thing we had to do was sit on the news until the commencement of the Magic Millions Sales.

It didn’t take long as we grabbed the 4th lot of the sale and the information was able to be disseminated. Peter and Paul had become Dynamic !

Peter Snowden & Paul Snowden - Exciting new training partnership based at Randwick.

We have started by purchasing a wonderful selection of yearlings for the boys to train and this will continue, sale by sale into the years ahead.

Father and Son Teams work extremely well in the thoroughbred industry as family ties are the strongest bonds.

It was natural that Team Snowden and Team Dynamic would forge an immediate strong bond.

PETER SNOWDEN announced he’s ON THE MOVE

On the 20th November 2013, Peter and Paul Snowden announced they were to leave the famous Darley operation at the conclusion of the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, to establish their own father and son training partnership based at Royal Randwick.

Peter took over the top job at Darley in May 2008 and has won a plethora of Group 1 races across the country, including the 2010 Golden Slipper with Sepoy.

"It has been a rewarding six years and I am proud of all that we have achieved," Peter said in a press release.

"It is the right time to move on with my son Paul and take on a new challenge. It is something we have always wanted to do.

"With an operation like Darley, it is only fair that there is plenty of time for a transition.

"Sheikh Mohammed has provided me with an amazing opportunity and I will be forever grateful.

"When the time comes, we will deal with the farewells but for now, my focus remains on producing results for Darley.”

Darley's managing director Henry Plumptre said, "Sheikh Mohammed is very grateful to Peter for his efforts since joining Darley".

Peter's record speaks for itself and we have been very fortunate to have him as our Head Trainer," he said.

"Peter has already amassed a formidable record for Sheikh Mohammed and Darley. He plans to add to that record between now and the end of the Sydney Autumn Carnival," said Plumptre.

"His legacy will continue as we benefit from the offspring of champion colts Sepoy, Helmet and Denman."

A major highlight of Peter Snowden's tenure was a record clean sweep of the two-year-old G1 features in 2010/11 including Golden Slipper winner Sepoy.

PETER SNOWDEN with his well earned Golden Slipper

Peter Snowden said the opportunity to work with son Paul, who has been Darley's Melbourne foreman for the past five years, was the catalyst for the decision.

"Paul wanted us to set up together even when John Hawkes was here. But it was such a good job here, such an opportunity, that I kept pouring cold water on it," he said.

"We are prepared to rebuild from scratch and to put all our energies into it. We will need new stables and get owners. We will need the right staff and all sorts of things - but it is genuinely exciting," he said.

Snowden, who spent almost two decades as assistant to Hawkes with the Ingham establishment before replacing him when Darley bought out the chicken kings, said his most satisfying moments with Darley were the unprecedented five Group 1 wins by two-year-olds in a season.

"Sepoy was freakish, and we had Helmet too. They won the Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper, Sires Produce, Champaign and the TJ Smith in Brisbane. It had never been done before and may never be done again," he said.

PETER SNOWDEN – His Career in Review:

* Peter started as a bush jockey and proceeded to take out his trainer’s license working a small collection of horses.

* Peter joined the Ingham Bloodstock organisation as one of six foremen. He soon advanced to manager under original trainer Vic Thomson.

* Peter remained with the Ingham Bloodstock team as lead foreman when John Hawkes was employed to replace Vic Thompson.

* In the ten years with John Hawkes, Peter was more often than not the stable raceday representative and media go to person, a role that John was more than happy to pass over.

* When Hawkes left to form a training partnership with his own sons, Peter was promoted to the Head Trainer for the Ingham’s.

* A short time later, Ingham Bloodstock and Woodland Stud was sold to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley operation.

* In May 2008, Peter was entrusted by Sheikh Mohammed to be his Head Trainer of their gigantic Southern Hemisphere operation and the transition between owners was seamless.

* Peter is adamant a significant aspect to the Darley operation’s success was the Melbourne stable were headed by Peter’s son, Paul.

* Paul Snowden is a competent and professional young man with high quality horse husbandry skills. Paul has been a pillar of strength that his father was able to rely upon. He was his eye’s and ears of the individual horses and Melbourne racing scene.

* There is little doubt that in the thoroughbred industry family operations, in particular father and son teams, are highly successful.

* With approximately 230 employees and 1000 horses in training and at Stud in Sydney & Melbourne, Peter remains the trainer until his departure at the end of the Autumn Carnival.

* Paul will depart Darely a few weeks earlier than Peter, to establish the working operations and logistics of the 70 stables at Randwick, to ensure systems are in place allowing the boys a seamless transition into their new training partnership.
